FLEXIBILITY AROUND THE CLOCK.

We have a long and successful history in the sector, helping many of the UKs biggest transportation and logistics companies. One such customer is Reed Boardall.

Operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, Reed Boardall is one of the UK’s foremost temperature-controlled food distribution businesses.

Based in Boroughbridge, Yorkshire, it stores and transports frozen products from manufacturers all around Europe to leading British supermarkets with its 180-strong vehicle fleet.

With around 350 drivers on its roster, Reed Boardall needed to distribute a smartphone to each individual that, as well as allowing them to make calls enroute, would securely support a limited number of specific apps and allow very restricted internet usage.

These apps enable drivers to complete legally required vehicle and trailer checks or allow them to see nearby HGV refuelling stops that accept the company’s preferred payment solutions, while limited data allows them to download traffic updates.

SAFE AND EFFICIENT OPERATIONS.

We worked with Reed Boardall to create a tailored package with unlimited access to local and national calls and texts to match the geographical diversity of its workforce. A bespoke data bundle also provided controlled access for drivers to perform their roles effectively and safely.

A flexible solution was also essential for Reed Boardall to run their operation efficiently. The COVID-19 pandemic added further complexity as previously mobile workers were quickly required to work from home, with limited time to prepare hardware, user profiles and security checks.

LOCATION SERVICES, TRACKING AND SUPPORT.

The group required an efficient and dynamic vehicle tracking and communication system to ensure that health and safety standards were met by the 350 drivers across its fleet.

Decentralised systems and procedures, together with device misuse was resulting in increased risk and paperwork, driving up costs and creating inefficiencies.

In response, plan.com supplied 240 mobile devices with a pre-installed MDM solution and GPS tracking. Using the plan.com network, Reed Boardall was then able to centrally apply rules to all devices restricting access to known and trusted applications only, managed and controlled by head office.
