WIFI AND 4G
CALLING

Whether you're at home, in a coffee shop or at the office, if you're having a signal problem, you can use Wi-Fi to call as normal. And 4G Calling lets you make calls over 4G, meaning clearer calls.

NO EXTRA
CHARGES

Wi-Fi and 4G Calling use your minutes and not your data. Your calls are included as part of your usual voice tariff allowance, and out-of-tariff calls are charged at your standard rate.

EVERYTHING
IN-BETWEEN

You'll move seamlessly and uninterrupted between Wi-Fi and 4G network coverage to continue your call, while being able to check your mail or browse the Internet at the same time.

GETTING STARTED IS EASY.

If you’ve received a text notification from us, there’s no need to do anything – you’re all set up and ready to go. There’s no need to sign up, register or download a separate app. If you’re connected to a Wi-Fi network or you’ve got a 4G signal, you’ll automatically use 4G Calling (4G Calling is subject to availability and not available in all locations). Wifi calling may need turning on.

NEW PHONE

If you’ve got a brand new phone that’s connected through plan.com (see eligible devices below), you will automatically be set up for 4G Calling and can turn on WiFi Calling. There’s no need to do anything!

How Do I know I am on Wi-Fi Calling?

The top right of your phone instead of saying O2-UK or plan.com will say some variation of “Wi-Fi Call”.

ELIGIBLE DEVICES

Customers with iPhone SE, 7, 8 , X, XR, 11, 12, or 13 with the latest iOS11 (or above) installed can enjoy the experience of seamless connectivity.

HOW IS WIFI
CALLING BILLED?

Wi-Fi calling comes out of your standard UK minutes package. Wifi calling cannot be used roaming.

DOES WIFI AND 4G CALLING WORK
WITH EVERY NETWORK?

No, some networks (specifically those in hotels – for example the Premier Inn – Free Wi-Fi" block the ability to make Wi-Fi calls. Some networks are not of a good enough speed or quality to support Wi-Fi calling and so the device will not support it.

4G Calling is only available in the UK.

Wi-Fi Assist

Wi-Fi assist is a technology that will check the quality of your Wi-Fi, and if the Wi-Fi network you are connected to is not assessed to be better than the mobile data connection (4G / 3G etc.) will STILL use your mobile data. This is not affiliated with Wi-Fi Calling and we advise that it should be turned off, as it can lead to unexpectedly large data usage when the customer believes they are on Wi-Fi.

Troubleshooting.

You must have a device listed above, we need to enable your phone to be Wi-Fi and 4G Calling enabled.

plan.com O2 customers only, must ensure they are connected to our data.plan.com APN, by visiting apn.plan.com.

If all the above are true, or Wi-Fi and 4G Calling have stopped working, here are the settings you need to check. Wi-Fi and 4G Calling require two different set ups, so please follow them carefully.
